False Morel vs Yellow Morel
Gyromitra esculenta and Morchella americana are confused for one another often enough to be worth putting next to each other.
Brain-like and deceptively named 'esculenta'. Contains gyromitrin, which the body converts to a rocket-fuel compound. Deaths still occur.
The morel most Americans actually pick, and the cause of a seasonal migration of commercial pickers north up the continent as the ground warms. Like every morel it is poisonous raw.
